Queer Critics Announce Dorian Award Nominations

GALECA the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association of which queerguru is one of its 170 proud members have announced the nominations for their prestigious annual Dorian Awards that honors the best in Film and Television over the past year.  Although it is no surprise to see that Moonlight leads with 6 Nominations (closely followed by La La Land) the Awards are not just about LGBTQ movies.

However the Awards do have an essential element in a section that highlights Unsung Films and TV Programs which GALECA feels never reached the audience they deserved, plus Campy Movies & TV Shows that are all in the best/worst taste. What also sets the Dorians aside from all other Awards is the ‘Wilde’ section which recognizes LGBTQ Rising Stars, Wits and Performers of the Year, and the Timeless Star  Award given to an actor or performer whose exemplary career is marked by character, wisdom and wit.  This years Timeless Star is John Waters.

This year’s Dorian winners will be announced on Thursday, January 26. The group’s annual Winners Toast, honoring a select group of 2016-17 winners, is set for Saturday afternoon, February 18, in Los Angeles.
