Queer as Folk creator Russell T Davies has written a brand new TV series for the UK’s BBC 1 who have just released a first preview prior to its launch later this year. Called Years and Years the six part drama series which follows the Lyons family in Manchester and their tumultuous life across 15 years and will deal with the rise of populist politicians in Britain, trans-humanism, war and other cultural issues facing the UK.
Starring gay heartthrob actor Russell Tobey as Daniel Lyons a married gay man, and also Oscar winner Emma Thompson as Vivienne Rook, a populist politician rising to power.
Looking forward 15 years Britain withdraws from Europe, America becomes a lone wolf, China asserts itself and a new world begins to form.’ Society is hotter, faster, madder, with the turmoil of politics, technology and distant wars affecting the Lyons in their day-to-day lives.
Davies who recently wrote and produced the award-winning A Very English Scandal, about a homsosexual affair that brought down a major political leader, also has another TV series in the works, this time for the UK’s Channel 4. The Boys is about the impact of the 1980s AIDS crisis and Davies has been working on it for a number of years and claims it is his most heavily-researched work. The five-part drama will follow the story of the 1980s, the story of AIDS, and the story of three boys, Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin, across the decade.
