Provincetown’s Holly Folly : It’s Beginning to Feel Like Christmas

Lobster cartes Christmas Tree

If you believe that life in PTown, the gay mecca of the. very tip of Cape  Cod comes to a standstill when it empties out after Labor Day, you are so wrong.  Christmas and the whole Holiday Season are far too queer for us to miss out, especially when the town is taken over by Holly Folly

It kicks off on Friday December 1st with the  Annual Holly Folly Jingle Bell Run & Brunch Fundraiser where you get the chance to jog through the town mid-morning wearing as little as possible.

Later that day there is a hard call with the two wonderfully funny women whose shows overlap with their times.   Kristen  Becker will be performing her one-woman show  SANDY CLAUS: Out of the Clauset  Lovable drunkard Sandy Claus sets the record straight about the North Pole and removes the shroud of secrecy that has long hidden the truth around Santa’s empire.  Playing at Crown and Anchor  at 7 pm.

Playing down the road at The Post Office Cafe and Cabaret, straight from NY is Miss Paige Turner in her show Slay Ride.  Miss Turner returns to the venue after headlining her full summer season there in her all-new holiday special “SLAY RIDE!” this oversized Barbie wants a lot this Christmas.

Then later that night.  Provincetown Holly Folly Follies: A GAY Holiday Extravaganza! takes over the Town Hall bringing a Tito Vodka Bar.  You can start the next day  at 10 am at the Annual Holly Folly Pajama Brunch at Bayside Betsy’s …. suitably attired of course

The whole weekend is packed with queer festive activities that include The Canteen’s Holiday Market, Chorale Concert, Drag Bingo and even a Ginger Bread House Making Party  etc etc Check out the whole schedule HERE

Meanwhile, if you cannot make it there (shame)  you can still get a taste of PTown’s Holiday Festivities thanks to the enterprising singer Jonathan Hawkins who along with his husband Paolo Martini are the (newish) owners of the town’s largest entertainment complex, The Crown and Anchor.

The venue has released its first album. Recorded in Ptown, Provincetown Follies: Holly Folly at The Crown,  features 13 ‘queerly-reimagined’ tracks by 15 local Provincetown artists including Qya Cristál, Tina Burner (RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13), Jon Richardson, Zoë Lewis,  Jonathan Hawkins, and more.

Hawkins told Queerguru “Holiday music and its ‘message,’ have rarely embraced the LGBTQ+ community. For many of us, the magic of holiday music has been diminished by the churches, the ‘holders of holiday spirit,’ that have for so long left us out, asking us to come with voices, but to leave behind our hearts and our true selves. This album represents a reclamation of those traditional holiday songs as well as some queer twists on familiar favorites.”

This album is available to stream on all platforms and for purchase on iTunes and Amazon Music. Prints of the original album cover artwork are also available for sale at onlyatthecrown.com and come with a link for a digital download. A perfect digital stocking stuffer, proceeds from the album and cover art purchases support the Provincetown Performing Arts Fund, whose mission is to fund housing for local artists.

Stream Provincetown Follies: Holly Folly at The Crown on all major music streaming services including
Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and others.
