Queerguru loves the fact that Mark Phillips Schwamberger has not only reclaimed the non-pc label ‘sissy’ but does so proudly and very publically.
Schwamberger is currently starring in his one man play about his life as a sissy. It’s a comic drama with spans his childhood, schooling, New York years and return to the Midwest. Amongst all the laughter he also reveals “the abuse, humiliation, taunting, insults” he got because he didn’t play baseball or watch sports with his father. Something that all gay men can relate too.
THE SISSY CHRONICLES is currently enjoying a short run at the Evolution Theatre Company a queer group in Columbus Ohio where Schwamberger is the Artistic Director. The production is produced in conjunction with Abbey Theater of Dublin who’s producer Joe Bishara directs the play.
Schwamberger told The Columbus Despatch that “I acted different than what’s considered ‘normal’ for a boy. But this new play is about every person having a right to be who they are, and be proud of who you are.”.
BUT you do not have to go to either Columbus or Dublin in Ohio as the Evolution Theatre Company and the Abbey Theatre will stream “The Sissy Chronicles” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday 17th Sept and Friday, 18th, 5 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday 19th and 2 p.m. Sunday. 20th, For tickets ($15), call 614-410-4550 or visit dublinohiousa.gov or evolutiontheatre.org
