There has deservedly a lot of attention being played in the media right now about Mj Rodriguez’s historic lead-actor Emmy nomination for her performance as Blanca on FX’s Pose — the first time for a trans person. But she is part of a whole slate of queer talent that is also being nominated for their outstanding work on television.
Competing with Rodriquez for the Lead Dramatic Actress Emma is queer actor Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana of Wales on the most recent season of the Netflix drama The Crown. Corrin has recently been talking in public about steps she/they have taken dealing with their own gender dysphoria. The Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category is between two queer women Gillian Anderson, who plays Margaret Thatcher on The Crown, will vie for the trophy alongside Samira Wiley, who was nominated again for her portrayal of Moira on The Handmaid’s Tale .
Queer favorite Pose now in its third season has helped Billy Porter receive his third Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination in a row for his role as Pray Tell (he won in 2019). The show and its trans producers Janet Mock and Our Lady J has once again been nominated for the Outstanding Drama Series award.
An extremely popular nomination is for Bowen Yang for the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category. His impression o the iceberg from Titanic on Saturday Night Live should seal the deal. Nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category is Yang’s colleague on SNL, lesbian cast regular Kate McKinnon. She will compete for the trophy against queer actor Hannah Einbinder, who was nominated for playing a bisexual character on Hacks.
Also Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy is also up for Outstanding Guest Actor for hosting the February 6 episode of SNL, which found him teaming up with Yang, McKinnon, and Punkie Johnson for the objectively delightful “It Gets Better” sketch.
The ubiquitous RuPaul got his 6th nomination in a row for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for Drag Race, which itself received another nomination for Outstanding Competition Program. But this year RuPaul has some real competition, as Queer Eye’s Fab Five were collectively nominated for Outstanding Host.

Netflix cartoon Big Mouth received a nomination for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode “The New Me,” which featured trans actor Josie Totah as the voice of Natalie, a trans character introduced in the show’s fourth season.
Hustlers star Keke Palmer and SNL veteran Paula Pell both took home nominations for Turnt Up with the Taylors and Mapleworth Murders respectively, while A Black Lady Sketch Show — which boasts several queer performers and writers — got a nod for Outstanding Variety Sketch series.
