Miami based celebrated queer choreographer/dance Pioneer Winters is also the Artist-In-Residence at the city’s Arsht Center. It;s there he will be moderating a panel of artists spanning the creative fields of dance, drag, fashion and theater to share their own creative practices have brought catharsis. Also on how they explore and approach resilience and self-love in their work.

Pioneer Winter has been commissioned by Arsht to create a new work titled Birds of Paradise. Directed by Winter, the dance-theater work will be enacted as a “tropical militia” of queer-identifying artists. Motivated by the forced anonymity of queer resistance, it rejects an abridged gay history that memorializes efforts to some and erases others. Birds of Paradise seeks a new mythology in order to gain control over the story and rhythm by which we march or fly.
