People Like Us is an ongoing participatory photography project exploring AFAB (assigned female at birth) trans and non-binary identities and experience; masculinity, gender-dysphoria, gender-euphoria, the beauty and nuances of gender non-conforming bodies, visibility, rituals and individual complexities.
It’s the work of celebrated Brit photographer/artist Holly Revell who has a keen eye for preserving and collaborating with queer artists, making images and portraits which explore performance and transforming identities.
This week (until November 15th) PEOPLE LIKE US is part of SHOUT Festival of Queer Arts and Culture in Birmingham UK. It is a project of Birmingham LGBT and was created in 2009 as a direct response to a significant lack of representation for of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer in Birmingham’s arts venues.
Each year since it has grown and changed building in ambition and taking on new challenges, they’ve been a film festival and an arts festival, they’ve worked in different venues, they’ve started new conversations and taken on new shapes and ideas. In recent years they have developed a robust and dynamic annual festival taking place for 10 days each November. This year because of the lockdown, its’ all Virtual Online, which means its more accessible to an even wider audience.
