PBS Great Performances are filming the new revival of COMPANY

If you are not going to be able to make it to Broadway to see the fabulous Tony and Grammy winner Katrina Lenk and two-time Tony and two-time Grammy winner Patti LuPone in Company, do not despair.   PBS are filming it to be shown in May.

This  documentary  will be part of the series’ fifth “Broadway’s Best” lineup and will  explore the legacy of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth‘s in Tony-winning director Marianne Elliott‘s production of  Company

They have been filming it for over two years and they take an inside look at the creative process of bringing the reimagined gender-swapped production to Broadway during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will feature rehearsal and performance footage, plus new interviews with Elliott, Lenk, LuPone, Sondheim, and members of the original 1970 cast,

This particular production started life in 2018 in London’s West End and was the very first to feature changes to the genders of several lead characters.  Covid delayed the Broadway Opening which finally happened n Dec. 9, 2021, two weeks after Sondheim’s unexpected passing on November 26.

Great Performances: Keeping Company with Sondheim (w.t.), a #PBSForTheArts program, premieres Friday, May 27,
at 9 p.m. ET on PBS, pbs.org/broadwayonpbs and the PBS Video app.
