On the morning of 9/11 the great American choreographer, Paul Taylor had just started rehearsing his Company with a new ballet called Promethean Fire . In the video below Charles Reinhart, one of Paul Taylor’s dearest friends talks if how the dancers went up onto the roof of their NY building and could see some of the sheer horrors of the disaster
Reinhart adds how the events of that day is reflected potency, power and inspiration for this particular dance. which in a way has become a strong symbol of remembrance.
This year the Paul Taylor Dance Company will be performing Taylor’s masterpiece “Promethean Fire,” as a gift to New Yorkers on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. It will poignantly echo the overwhelming tragedy of the event, the memory of those we lost, the City’s spectacular demonstration of courage, and reminds us all that even after turmoil and devastation, the human spirit will ultimately find power in community, renewal, and hope.
There are two separate performances at 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. on Sept 14th at The Oculus,
