If Santa was good enough to leave you some cash in your stocking this year,we know of a great way you can spend it on having fun AND doing some good at the same time
The folks at the Provincetown Film Festival (PFS) are travelling out West to mount a very prestigious Fundraiser specifically to support a much-needed year-round scholarship and mentorship program for emerging trans actors.
The Celebration on January 9th 2020 will be held at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society in San Francisco and the Honored Guest will SILAS HOWARD (Director A KId LIke Jake, Pose and Transparent). Also Ann Thomas the founder/principal of Transgender Talent LLC (a management company for performers and artists) will be presented with a Persistence of Vision Award.
The Film Society that has long been a mecca for LGBTQ diversity, wants to tackle some of the disparities in the industry for members of the transgender community. Proceeds from the event will support a year-round scholarship and mentorship program for emerging trans actors, including a financial stipend, hands-on professional training, industry meetings and exclusive access to PFS’s year-round programs, held in Provincetown, MA,
Progress has been made in recent years thanks to high profile shows such as Ryan Murphy’s Emmy-winning series POSE, which will the subject of a Special Tribute at the Event. However the PFS feel the economic, educational, and social disadvantages caused by discrimination that transgender and nonbinary people experience throughout their lives, makes it especially challenging for emerging trans actors to access the basic tools needed to secure auditions, let alone jobs.
