Open Dialogues : Stories From The LGBTQ Community

This powerful wee documentary is exactly what most queer people would have loved to been able to view on the verge of ‘coming out’ as gay.  Listening to the stories of seven South Florida members of the LGBTQ community articulate on their own journeys is such an uplifting experience.

Hearing their individual stories of what they needed to overcome to reach self-acceptance that would empower them to go public, was such a refreshing exercise in truth.  Queer people who are ‘out’ will appreciate that reaching this milestone in their lives often comes at a personal cost, and it’s so compelling listing to those who so sadly had to face rejection and even violence as a result.

There is no alternative to being true to oneself and as one of the interviewees mentioned, we can move forward within the warmth of the total acceptance of our ‘chosen family’ if our birth one is unable to offer unconditional love.  If you are experiencing the latter, then maybe somehow get a copy of this film to them

Directed and edited by award-winning filmmaker Freddy Rodriguez, The 19-minute video was a collaboration between the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood and the Miami filmmaker and is screening at Miami Film Festival.
