New Queer Music : Scott Matthew, Sonikku and ‘Diana The Musical’

Queerguru have been major fans of Australian singer/songwriter SCOTT MATTHEW since his debut solo album in 2008.  His very gentle melancholic songwriter combined with his quiet husky voice makes each of his haunting tracks so incredibly sensual.

Matthew has just released a a new music video for his song “Abandoned”   which he shot in lockdown on phones. It is  from his latest album Adorned.

Sonikku aka Derby-born and London-based Tony Donson, headed to LA to make the pop record of his dreams : the result is his debut album ‘Joyful Death’.  It’s a wonderful piece of escapism so perfect for the present time with its influences of Kylie Minogue, PC Music, Pet Shop Boys and Madonna.

Sonikku– who is also a member of London-based all-embracing queer collective Adonis, has  collaborations with alt-popstars LIZ and Little Boots.

The track we’ve chosen is ‘Don’t Wanna Dance With You’, which Sonikku says is written from the perspective of a friend who is fed up with annoying advances from creepy guys in the club, is hyper-playful thanks to video game sounds and Albertina’s lyrics about not wanting to be bought a drink and definitely not swapping numbers.

Finally we slipped in this video of Krewella’s Greenlights released in January 2020, purely because it gives the entire cast of DIANA THE MUSICAL a chance to let some steam off.  They were just about to open on Broadway before COVID 19 came along , now like everyone else on ‘The Great White Way’ they are sitting it out hoping for a happy outcome.
