Netflix has finally joined all the cable TV companies that now love to make happy-ever-after gay Christmas rom-coms to make us feel all sentimental over the holiday period. From where we are looking it seems that are taking it all seriously with such a first-class cast and crew.
Helmed by openly gay Tony Award-Winning multi-talented director Micheal Mayer (Spring Awakening) ….. he’s also directed opera at the Met, and several films including the sadly-overlooked A Home At The End of World written by Michael Cunningham. The writer is openly gay Chad Hodge (The Playboy Club) who is also currently writing/directing a biopic on the rampant homophobic Anita Bryant
The film stars queer actors Philemon Chambers and Michael Urie as Nick and Peter, respectively, a pair of longtime roommates in Los Angeles. Peter works as a photographer, while Nick makes his living writing children’s books. When Peter’s parents (Kathy Najimy & Barry Bostwick) lobby him to return to the east coast for the holidays, Nick tags along. Then Peter’s mom tries to set him up with a handsome trainer, and Peter and Nick both must confront questions about their future amid the holiday madness. Luke Macfarlane, Jennifer Robertson and Jennifer Coolidge also star.
When they were filming the movie earlier this year Uri said “Celebrating Christmas in springtime with this amazing group of artists must mean I was good this year. Chad Hodge has written a laugh-out-loud-funny and lump-in-throat-sweet movie that Michael Mayer will effortlessly lift off the page,” Urie gushed. “My mom is Kathy Najimy, my dad is Barry Bostwick and my aunt is Jennifer Coolidge — if that isn’t some kinda gay Christmas miracle, I don’t know what is.“
The last line is from the much treasured gay Icon a puzzled-looking Jennifer Coolidge who says “the gays always know how to do stuff ….. for some reason, they’re always obsessed with me !”
Single All The Way will be on NETFLIX December 2nd 2021
