Moonlight sweeps the LGBTQ Critics Dorian Awards

Moonlight unsurprisingly swept the board at this years Dorian Awards winning 6 of the categories including Best Picture. These prestigious awards given out annually by the Gay & Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA) which is comprised of 170 film and tv critics and entertainment journalists in the UK, Canada and UK (of which queerguru is one).

Moonlight also won Best Director for Barry Jenkins, who also picked up the Award for Screenplay of the Year.  The movie’s star Mahershala Ali won for Film Performance of the Year – Actor, Trevante Rhodes won the We’re Wilde About You! Rising Star of the Year, and then the movie itself won Best LGBTQ Movie of the Year.

Other notable and popular winners were Viola Davis who won Film Performance of the Year – Actress for Fences;  La La Land won Visually Striking Movie of The Year; The Dressmaker picked up Campy Flick of the Year. In the TV categories, Transparent won Comedy of the Year for the third time running, plus Best LBGTQ Comedy and Best Actor for Jeffrey Tambor.

The late Carrie Fisher was posthumously awarded Wilde Wit of the Year, and queer filmmaker John Waters was given the Association’s highest honor The Timeless Star Award.
