We love the fact that our community keeps claiming back terms once thrown at us derogatively and which we now use as a celebration of our queerness. Flamers was one such word, and here it is now used describing a rather fabulous series of some outrageously wonderful LGBT films that so deserve reviving.
Flaming Classics, run out of Miami’s Bill Cosford Cinema by Trae DeLellis and Juan Barquin, is a film series that pairs feature films with live work by local performance artists. The program is intent on entertaining and educating audiences on classic films that are feminine, queer, camp, and everything in between.
The next screening on Sunday 11th Feb is BOUND the cult classic lesbian movie from 1996 made by Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski when they were still The Wachowski Brothers. It is the story of Corky, a tough female ex-con, and her lover Violet who concoct a scheme to steal millions of stashed mob money and pin the blame on Violet’s crooked boyfriend Caesar and stars the fabulous Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, and Joe Pantoliano.
The screening will be preceded by a live performance by Ded Cooter and Opulence.
Future movies include THE DOOM GENERATION and VELVET GOLDMINE: for full details and tickets https://www.facebook.com/flamingclassics/
