Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Vancouver-based queer singer Mathew V, has released a music video of his take on ‘The Man I Love‘. The song written by George Gershwin and his brother Ira, is a mere 99 years old, and especially perfect now for any romantic gay man this week.
The track is from Mathew V’s new album ‘Anything Goes’ which seeks to reframe the assumed heteronormative narratives of the Great American Songbook. It is scheduled to be released on April 14th.
All throughout Anything Goes, Mathew V speaks out against the vilification of jazz, boldly bringing his thoughts to life with storied tunes such as “Moon River” and “Georgia On My Mind,” each sung from the perspective of a queer man who embodies rebellion, flirtatiousness, and glamor. This record allows Mathew to confidently share his stance on love, romantic trials, and tribulations with other men.

Hi Queerguru,
Thank you for sharing the video and info on Mathew V. I think its great that he is trying to make a genre more personal to people from the Queer community. Full marks have to go to anyone who try’s to break down barriers. Now I will go away and you tube and Spotify.
