Reading the resume of Mat Hayes is tiring : he’s a multi-award-winning filmmaker, actor, activist, and musician. We are researching him as he has written and starred in a delightful new short film about an awkward encounter when he (Joel) is trapped in a broken-down elevator with another cute man (Rafi). When he realises the man is someone he has stalked at the gym, he plucks up the courage to ask him out on a date. However, Rafi pauses a second too long, and Joel immediately regrets being uncustomarily forward
As the control room operator advises by phone that it may take a couple of hours before they are rescued, they awkwardly begin getting to know each other. Joel announces he has a contingency plan for this sort of thing, i.e. screw-top wine bottle. This certainly helps both men relax, especially as the slight panic-struck Joel starts to ease
Just as the two of them start to realise there is some sort of mutal attraction, Joel steps out of character and out of the elevator set, and to question out loud, if he was foolish making this film that was based into fulfillung his own desires, and not any real life sistuation.
Skillfully directed by Emerson Collins and Del Shores of the Sordid Lives franchise with spot-on performances by Hayes, and Alexander Pimentel as Rafi, this very charming, relatable award-winning drama, should find the audience it deserves now that it is screening on YouTube
