Celebrating PRiDE for us here at Queerguru is not just about the packed muscle-to-muscle circuit boy beach parties in major metropolitan cities (which we do LOVE) but equally, if not more important, it is in some of the smaller, less well-known places around the globe.
Just like Margate. This is a small coastal town just 80 miles from London which is proud of its sandy beaches. it’s the modern Turner Contemporary Art gallery, Dreamland Margate an amusement park with its vintage rides. And their piece de resistance is the Shell Grotto’s underground passages decorated with millions of seashells.
Over the past few years, there has been a steady influx of queer people adding to the local LGBTQ community ….. including some of the peeps from London’s Sink The Pink the best and most outrageous queer club. We also know that the best sign of a successful LGBTQ community making its presence known is when the local bigots come out of the woodwork.
Their bitter (but funny) slogan ‘Margate will never be MarGAYte’ on leaflets delivered to local households back in 2015 never dented the communities energies and plans. This year as always MARGATE PRIDE goes ahead but because of the COVID restrictions, the Parade will not. Check out some of the activities they have lined for this weekend
