Love Is In the Air: The (broken) heart Valentine’s Day Edition

Okay so Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone – and sometimes THE day for hopeless romantics hits you right where it hurts (your heart!). LÉON’s ‘Die For You’ is one of those songs that immediately transport you right back to that place of longing for that one person you miss so much it hurts. “The party’s over, time to go Spinnin’ lights, the music dies, you never showed. Wine stains and glitter on the floor. Grab my shoes, always the last one out the door. And for a moment, it all stopped. My head, my heart, like I forgot that you are gone. And then the feelin’ brings me back again.” You think Adele gives you all the feels? (worth noting that there is an uncanny vocal resemblance between the two) – TRY to make it through this song without demolishing an entire box of tissues or eating your feelings in a tub of ice cream!

Black Coffee has matched up with fellow global superstars Diplo and Elderbrook on a new single ‘Never Gonna Forget’. This melodramatic electro-acoustic jam pairs delicate guitar strings with the pitch-perfect vocals of Grammy-nominee Elderbrook. “Some kind of low is taking all my time. I can’t shake it off and it weighs on my mind. And now it’s heavy on, heavy on mine. Now I see your face in everybody else and even if I replace you I’ll never feel as high.”

Let’s wrap up Valentine’s Day on a high note, shall we? ‘My Funny Valentine’ was originally produced by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.  The acclaimed songwriting team wrote the song for their 1937 Broadway musical Babes in Arms. The song became a popular jazz standard, appearing on over 1300 albums performed by over 600 artists. My favorite rendition is sung by one of the greatest singers of this generation – Chaka Khan. Indulge in THE most romantic bliss that this song emanates!

Editors Note : actually this week I get the final word with one of the most perfect gay love songs.  Sung by two Broadway musical stars Ben Levi Ross and Taylor Trensch  who have been a real-life couple since 2017.  They both got to play the lead role in the Tony Award winning Dear Evan Hansen and the song they are singing here  with such passion and sheer joy is  from the show  : it’s ‘Only Us’ and its had 2 million hits since last Valentines Day
