The arrival of Social Media should have heralded a new dawn in artistic freedom but all of us who edit and produce queer content, in particular, are subjected to an increasing amount of unjustifiable censorship. The same faceless people on the world wide web that allowed the daily obscenity of the last resident of The White House to run for years unchecked, will not hesitate to ban sites like QUEERGURU in less than 5 minutes if we dare to publish anything they consider slightly risque.
Somehow even the mere hint of bare skin is now a trigger point for the likes of Facebook to accuse any perpetrator of creating the downfall of society at large whilst gratuitous violence is apparently still totally acceptable to them
With the entrenched attitudes of FB starting to actually worsen, there are thankfully alternatives starting to appear, and Pineapple is one such case. It was created to provide an online platform for explicit artworks and photo sessions. Their main purpose is to celebrate any kind of art that is now considered too hot for social media.
Pineapple even added a new section called ‘Light Meal’ which will feature/publish any kind of photography or artworks they like – but not necessarily erotic.
One of the artists featured whose work we love is French/Candian photographer Louis Ruel, and if it hadn’t been for Pineapple we would never have come across his wonderfully sensual Bedtime Series
