Legendary alternative drag performer DAVID HOYLE is still Divine.

Legendary Brit drag performer Divine David changed his name back to David Hoyle back in 2000 but to us he is still completely divine.  He was always ahead of the crowd with his brilliant outrageous performances and deservedly is considered the father of alternative drag.

Hoyle born in working-class Manchester has always worn his passionate socialist heart on his sleeve but he doesn’t just reserve his lacerating commentary for the heteronormative world. He is known to attack the materialistic-hedonistic gay scene, which he called “the biggest suicide cult in history”. And has often done do offsetting it with breathtaking instances of self-recrimination and even self-harm.

Queerguru met the anti-drag queen Hoyle in 2018 at BFI Flare in London to talk about his new film UNCLE DAVID 2,  and about HOLLY REVELL’s  book PARALLELUNIVERSE. We were immediately struck by the quiet humility of the man whose warm sense of  genuine humor wins you over in an instant.  He is in reality not just an iconic groundbreaking performer who we felt indebted too, but this gentle soul we wanted to befriend.

Now is your chance to meet him as on Thursday February 27th Hoyle will be ‘telling all’ to an audience at the Rialto Theatre in Brighton, England.  The Event is be a stripped-back, face to face interview with Q&A to follow where Hoyle will discuss with his life and career with Theatre Director Paddy Cooper.

There will also be a raffle and auction on the night with items including a signed copy of Holly Revell’s photo book on Hoyle “Parallel Universe”; a DVD of “Set the Thames on Fire” starring Hoyle  and signed by him

And very typical of Hoyle, a  £1 from every ticket sold and 50% of the proceeds of the raffle and auction go to Brighton based LGBTQ mental health charity MindOut, with Dark Unicorn using the rest to help fund our mission of bringing top class theatre to under-served areas.

Tickets available at tiny.cc/Hoyle.
