‘Last Dance at the Sundance Stompede’ is the MUST SEE queer film at Dance On Camera Film Fest, NY

If you are making tracks to the DANCE ON CAMERA FILM FESTIVAL in NY, there is a queer documentary that is a REAL MUST SEE.  In November 2023, over 800 people from all over the world gathered in San Francisco to attend the Sundance Stompede, an extraordinary multi-day country-western dance for the LGBTQ+ community and its friends, attracting hundreds of people every year. More than just dancing, it is an experience that brings people together and builds community in a way that has to be seen to be believed. Now, after 27 years of the event, this year is the final Stompede.

The final Sundance Stompede marked the end of a remarkable era. Last Dance at the Sundance Stompede directed by captures its historic weekend, chronicles the reflections of founder Ingu Yun and 15 participants as they celebrate the event’s enduring legacy and bid farewell with one last dance. What began in the early 1990s as a small grassroots fundraiser for AIDS blossomed into a cherished annual community gathering for 27 years.  More than a swan song of a beloved event, this tender and intimate documentary is a tribute to a community that used dance as a powerful vehicle for survival, celebration, and change for nearly three decades.

The film premiered at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in 2025, where it won Best Documentary, and has played at festivals around the world, including Chorescope, and is now making its NY premiere at Dance on Camera.
