Dame Agatha Christie, the British Grand Dane of murder mysteries, would turn over in her grave if she knew her work was now being compared with that of LAID BARE, a TV series on OUT TV. For starters, everyone in the Dame’s stories were alwaya full clothed and were detemindly heterosexual. Allegedly.
The only two things that can be compared with the old and new work are that they are both murder mysteries, and also extremely camp. The latter for very different reasons, though. Where Christie’s dramas were acted with some of the UK’s finest actors, Laid Bare just cast naked muscles, and I’m guessing they didn’t even get any of them to talk in their auditions.
It’s the story of ten men who gather at a secluded clothing-optional resort after receiving invitations from a dead man. They learn that he has left each of them a tenth of his significant fortune that they will receive at the end of the weekend. But the fewer of them there are, the more each will inherit. As secrets surface and alliances crumble, the lush paradise becomes a deadly trap of sex and murder, leaving one man alive to uncover the twisted truth behind the bloodshed.
It’s all in speedy 15-min episodes and always in or out of Speedos, so if the plot doesn’t appeal (YES there is one), just turn the sound down/off and stare. Summed up beautifully by this reviewer online “It’s so bad, so camp, and so fun!”
