The word from the UK is that the National Theatre’s very first film is something of a smash hit. In its 5-star review, The Guardian called this Romeo and Juliet ‘an ingenious triumph”.
This production of Shakespeare’s classic love story was created solely for the screen and it was shot on a single stage, over 17 days, during a global pandemic.
One of the reasons that the entire Queerguru office are so keen to view this for themselves is the fact that Romeo the star-crossed lover is played by none other than Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country and The Crown) Romeo and Juliet is repeated on Sky Arts on 5 April and 8 April in the UK and is on PBS in the US on 23 April. Meanwhile here is a wee taster to know why everybody is getting so hot under the collar . P.S. We should probably also mention that Jessie Buckley is playing the part of Juliet that many of you may have wanted |
