Jeanne Moreau the Grand Dame of French Cinema dies aged 89

The iconic actress and Grand Dame of French Cinema Jeanne Moreau has died aged 89 at her home in Paris.  Best known for her roles in French New Wave films like Jules et Jim, her illustrious career stretched over some 60 years with performances that netted her every major European Film Acting Award.

Ms Moreau, who was actually half English by birth,  was also famous for films she didn’t make …..she turned down the part of Mrs Robinson in The Graduate, and also for some of her ‘liaisons’ with famous men. The clip below from her breakthrough movie the film noir Elevator to the Gallows was directed by Louis Malle with a soundtrack by Miles Davis both of whom she had flings with at one time or another.
