Confession time. Before this music video landed in Queerguru’s in-box today we have never heard of Jake Wesley Rogers. After just viewing we know that is about to all change big time
Born in Kansas City, MO, this extremely talented queer singer/songwriter combines skyscraping vocals, eloquent songcraft, and driving instrumentation to give pop a jolt of infectious integrity and soaring spirit. Queerguru may not have heard of him before (shame!) but Wesley Rogers generated 20 million-plus streams independently, and he captivated a growing fanbase with various singles and the Evergreen EP [2017] and Spiritual EP [2019].
After he signed up with Facet Records/Warner Records in 2020. He kicked off his biggest, boldest, and brightest chapter yet with the release of major-label debut single “Middle of Love” last month to widespread acclaim.
Now Wesley Rogers has unveiled a stunning new video directed by Se Oh featuring his new single MOMENTARY which you can view below. But if you are in LA , you could catch him performing it at OUTLOUD: RAISING VOICES PRIDE Kick-Off Festival later today at the Coliseum
Wesley-Rogers commented d “‘Momentary’ is a funeral and celebration of life. As a queer person, I think it’s important to recognize the complex tapestry that began before I was here and will continue after I’m gone. In the song, I pay respect to my heroes, both fictional and actual, from Marsha P. Johnson to Peter Pan, who didn’t get a chance to grow old. In the music video by Se Oh, I boldly sing in fishnets and a loincloth while being crucified on a cross, a powerful representation of the impermanence of love and life. Everything truly is momentary.”
Except maybe for this music video, which we can see ourselves playing over and over again for a very long time
