If you love the music of Anthony and The Johnsons as much as we do in the Queerguru Office, then we think you will appreciate the latest musical genius we have just stumbled upon.
London based Bulgarian queer singer/songwriter/performance artist the wonderfully eccentric Ivo Dimchev is hard to describe. With his avant-garde vision he simply doesn’t fit in to any conventional category as the Judges discovered when he was an unlikely contestant on the UK’s X Factor TV Show last year.
The 43 year old told the panel before performing that he had “accidentally discovered” that he could write songs, before proceeding to challenge them with what he calls one of his ‘silly sings’. Claiming he’s more “weird” than the run-of-the-mill X Factor performer is a vast understatement contestant, but he seems to have spent his whole very successful career pushing boundaries whenever he can .
He is a multi-layered artist for as well as his music, DImchev is also a choreographer who gives master classes in Budapest’s National Theater and in Antwerp’s Royal Conservatoire of Dance.
His book “Stage works 2002-2016” presents images and dramaturgical texts from more than 30 stage works Dimchev has created through the years. And he has also published a book of poems and short stories called “Lyrics and Pederatuses”.
His Selfie Concerts are hugely popular in Europe as are all his pieces that inter-act with his audience.
His hectic touring schedule has him literally globe trotting but the one big void is there are no performances in the US, which is possible why we have not heard of him until now. He has been here at least once before because back in 2011 he was nominated for Bessie Award in New York for best performance of the year
Here is a track from his new album SCULPTURES
