How to Stay Healthy and Fit in Your Forties

Once you reach your thirties, you realize that your body is not what it used to be. The metabolism is slower, it’s much more difficult to lose weight, and let’s not talk about our abs and muscles. So, what can we expect when we turn the big four oh? On the other hand, you see those 4s+ men who still look hella hot, so what’s their secret? In order to be their workout buddy (yes please!), you have to work on yourself and put a bit more of an effort into this. Without further ado, take a look at some of the best ways to stay in great shape even when you hit 40

                EATING IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT

Paying attention to what you eat is now more important than ever. You had to think about the food you eat before as well, but as you get older, your energy levels decrease, and your metabolism slows down. This means that you have to choose food that’s both healthy and easy to process. Bear in mind that some vitamins and minerals are absorbed differently at different stages of life, so think about this when planning your meals. Another great thing would be to change your diet completely and look for new dietary plans that will help you out. For example, you can turn to a chrono diet that will regulate the things you eat, and will definitely help you out in the future. Apart from that, make sure that you drink less alcohol as it’s very harmful and can get worse once you get older.

EXERCISE IS NOT ONLY FOR YOUNG ADULTS

If you have never exercised before, now it would be a perfect time to start, even though it’s going to be a bit difficult and challenging. Your muscles and your tendons become tighter as you grow older, so your ability to balance and move will deteriorate. In order to keep your muscles in good form, you need to exercise them a bit every week. You don’t have to hit the gym every day, but two to three times a week will do. The most important thing is that you spend a lot of time stretching, as you don’t want to end up with an injury that will stay with you for the rest of your life. By exercising (hitting the gym or going to cardio runs every once in a while), you won’t be only doing wonders for your body, but also for your cardiovascular system. It will most certainly function better, so you’ll have lower chances of ending up with heart disease or metabolic problems.

FIND TIME FOR EVERYTHING

A very tricky subject here is that perhaps you don’t have time to think about the food that you eat or hit the gym two times a week. Now, we need to clear one thing up – yes, you do have time. As far as food is concerned, you can always try to plan your meals in advance (which will save you a lot of time) or prepare them the night before. In case you don’t get all the important nutrients in your system during a meal, you can also turn to alternative options, such as getting supplements online that will make up for what you didn’t take during the day. This is always a great way to get what you want and still save time. On the other hand, you can also start planning your week in advance and you will certainly find a way to squeeze in two one-hour workouts in the week. Don’t be lazy!

SLEEP TIGHT

Even though it doesn’t seem so, sleeping is very important. This wasn’t being told enough when you were twenty, but everyone knows about it nowadays. Not getting enough sleep can lead to many different problems, such as higher levels of stress, lack of energy or even fast aging. You are supposed to sleep for about 7 to 8 hours every night, so plan when you’re going to go to bed and wake up. If you cannot do this by yourself, there are great apps that are designed for this that will help you out. Also, make sure that you don’t stare at your smartphone screen before sleeping as this will result in bad dreams or the inability to fall asleep.

It might be challenging to stay fit and healthy once you hit a certain age, but that age is definitely not 40. You still have a long way to go to so you can’t use this as an excuse. So, take your gym clothes and get ready to work on yourself!
