Michael Urie is in Washington DC right now about to embark on one of the biggest roles in his career by playing the lead in Hamlet. Ever since his breakthrough role in TV’s Ugly Betty over a decade ago this openly gay actor has enjoyed a variety of roles including starring as Arnold Beckoff in Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song revival on Broadway.
At the same time that he moved to L.A. to film Ugly Betty Urie first met actor Ryan Spahn (Woven) who has been his boyfriend ever since. Although the relationship almost never happened after Urie failed to turn up for their very first date.
The story of how they met and that first non-date is told by the two of them in this episode of Theatermania series of Broadway’s First Dates, which originally aired in November 2018
