Halloween …because sometimes its scary being gay

Queerguru always thought that we queers loved Halloween because it was yet another holiday where we could dress up , and even crazier than ever.  However we are told by our new friends    at image+nation its also because sometimes it’s scary being queer..

They should know because  as Canada’s first LGBTQ film festival and pioneering platform of queer stories, they are bringing us their first Halloween special edition, I+N HORREUR.  And even better you don’t have to actually go out trick and treating to find as they are bring some super scary cinematic treats directly to your home to watch and share!

The four-day Halloween/horror-themed virtual festival runs the gamut from edge-of-one’s seat psychological thrillers to good old fashioned blood n’ gore slashers offering online thrills and chills from October 29 – November 1, 2020. There will be movies like Hellbent  considered  the world’s first gay slasher film. With a wicked sense of humour, eye-popping production design and ultra-gory special effects, writer/ Paul Etheredge and Joseph Wolf’s (the co-creator of the horror classic, Halloween) give queer audiences what they were long missing: blood, gore and edge of your seat suspense with a generous soupçon of handsome boys (both good and bad). In this haunting debut feature, handsome boy-next-door Eddie and his three best pals immerse themselves in the swirling, fantasy-filled world of the annual West Hollywood Halloween Carnival. and laughs coming at a terrifying breakneck pace.

Plus one of our personal favourites is Knife + Heart the sophomore movie from avant garde queer french filmmaker Yann Gonzales . .  Starring Vanessa Paradis as the slightly deranged lesbian boss of a porn company, this twisted tale is  a campy gay slash horror movie.   Very much an acquired taste  which thankfully we possess,
