Filmmaker Francis Lee the openly gay creative force behind GOD’S OWN COUNTRY our favorite queer film of 2017 has announced plans for his second movie, and it sounds equally fab.
It’s a May/December romance called AMMONITE with a story takes place in a coastal town in the United Kingdom circa 1820. It is a romance between Mary Anning, a paleontologist, and a “London woman of means to whom she must unexpectedly play nursemaid;”
The queer lovers will be played by Saoirse Ronan, currently wowing audiences in Mary Queen of Scots and Oscar Winner Kate Winslet, who has played queer roles before in Heavenly Creatures (1994), and in the 2001 biopic Iris, about the bisexual writer Iris Murdoch.
Filming will start in 2019 …. and in case you cannot wait (!) here’s a reminder of how excellent Lee’s debut feature film really was.
