GIna Lollobrigida fabulous Italian movie star from the golden age of Hollywood dies
Gina Lollobrigida, the fabulous Italian movie actress who became one of the post-World War II era’s first major European sex symbols, died on Monday in Rome. She was 95.
In the 1950’s Lollobrigida emerged as the face of la dolce vita, a siren beckoning Romans to once again indulge, celebrate and embrace.
Ms. Lollobrigida represented something iconic, far more important than the actual talent she often displayed in her work as an actress. She was always considered more a sex symbol than a serious actress — at least by the American press — but she was also nominated for a BAFTA award as best foreign actress in “Pane, Amore e Fantasia” (1953). She received Golden Globe nominations for “Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell” in 1969 and for a recurring role on the prime-time television soap “Falcon Crest” in 1985
Her death marks the passing of yet another star of the golden days of Hollywood.
