Gay Cruises : naughty or scary or just wickedly funny ?

Earlier this week Atlantis Events the major gay cruise promotor sent an email to the over 5,000 guests who are booked on their next cruise, which claims that it will disembark (without refund) any guest who publishes any photos or videos of “anything explicitly sexual on social media.”

That is kind of scary BUT maybe not as scary  as a brand new British  TV series WRECK  which is set on a cruise liner with a boat-load of queer characters.  It’s not the time of mischief that Atlantis wants to stomp out as its a gory slasher-mystery with a very British sense of wicked humor.  In the very opening scene, we meet Pippa (Jodie Tyack), a young woman who works aboard the luxury cruise ship Sacramentum. One night, she’s ambushed by a knife-wielding attacker, who chases her right off the back of the boat.  Oh yes, the killer is wearing a  giant duck costume.

The Cruise Liner insisted it was suicide but Pippa’s brother, Jamie (Oscar Kennedy), doesn’t believe it so he cons his way onto the crew for the next voyage, intent on getting to the bottom of his sister’s disappearance.

It is not going to be an easy task as the deeper  Jamie digs into the mystery,  his colleagues are being picked off by masked assailants, one by one.  Meanwhile Jamie’s gay, and he’s got a queer bestie on board in Vivian (Thaddea Graham), as well as Olly (Anthony Rickman), a cute co-worker who catches his eye

The series creator Ryan J. Block, said the decision to center LGBTQ+ characters was a no-brainer: “As a gay man and horror fan, I think horror has always been queer,” he told the BBC, “but it’s always coded, and subtext. I thought, ‘let’s do away with the subtext. Let’s have explicit representation!”

Wreck premiered in the U.K. last fall  (BBC 3)and already has been green-lit for a second season already.  Now Hulu has announced it will roll out the entire first season of the series on March 1 and have shared this trailer.  PS At this stage we cannot confirm if it will also be screening in Atlantis Cruises.
