Gaston Lacombe : new exhibit FRAGMENTS

Gaston Lacombe is what the oldtimers n PTown call “awashahore”.  It’s the description that applies to many of us who visit this beautiful gay mecca on the very tip of Cape Cod and never leave. As Lacombe is an artist he quickly fitted into a community that respects and cherishes the arts on every level.  The fact that he also identifies as a ‘bear’ made him fit in even easier, especially when it comes to the Town’s Annual Bear Week.

In 2018 Lacombe (originally a French Canadian) opened his own studio in Whalers Wharf and has never looked back.  Known for the explosive colors of his works, often created in mixed media techniques, with stunning queer images, he quickly established a very loyal following

His latest Exhibit is FRAGMENTS  plays on the idea of preserving fractions of seconds of memory, mostly dealing with his experience as a gay/queer person. It is often part of the queer experience to repress memories, evade what attracts, or avoid revealing too much. Therefore, he often finds that certain memories remain highly fragmented, only remembering the glimpse of a body, the movement of a person, or the colors of a scene. Through this body of work Lacombe explores these scraps and layers of memories and the efforts of the mind to fill in the blanks.
