It was the title FISHNETS AND FILM that grabbed our attention. After all Queerguru covers so many of the queer film festivals around the globe BUT we had never heard of this one.
“Fishnets and Film” was created by Queer Artist (& Drag Queen) Robby Kendall (AKA Ms Sweet Nothing) after the completion of Kendall’s first film a dark comedy “Drag Queens Must Die!” in 2021. He decided to produce a Drag Show and embed his film in the show as ‘one of the acts’, and so brought in a red carpet and step-and-repeat to give his friends and guests some Hollywood style.. First in San Diego at Number One on Fifth and then at The Port Bar in Oakland, CA .
It was an immediate hit and so Kendall decided to expand this concept to become part in-person and part online. After each in-person event, a week-long online film festival will follow allowing worldwide access to all the amazing films that were Officially Selected.
Their next event on August sees F + F returning to San Diego at Gossip Grill for a ‘bear-themed’ program including the screening of Tom Goss‘s short film, Reshaping Beauty: Round in All the Right Places. Tom will also be there to entertain in this event co-hosted by local non-profit Bears San Diego. (You can check out the recent interview Queerguru filmed with Tom HERE)
The Fishnet and Film event in September will be a “Lesbian” themed program with local stand-up artist Cassidy Stains who promises a hilarious and uplifting routine. The featured film (TBD) from this program will be followed by a live O &A hosted By Film Consortiums‘ founder Jodl Calley with filmmakers representing the film.
