Prime Video has just released the first trailer of an intriguing-looking sic-part queer comedy thriller. Dead Hot is set in Liverpool UK (it has an officially recognized Gay Quarter) and it explores themes of “family, class, love, trauma, and identity”. It tells the story of two twentysomethings Elliot and Jess, best friends united by a bond of grief at losing Peter—the first and only love of Elliot and Jess’ twin brother, who went missing in mysterious circumstances five years previously. Still reeling from the trauma, the best friends spiral into a hedonistic lifestyle, partying to numb their grief while clinging to a small hope that they will one day find out what happened.
Created written and executive produced by Charlotte Coben, daughter of author Harlan Coben and a producer and writer on Netflix’s popular Coben adaptations The Stranger, Stay Close, Shelter and Fool Me Once. The six-episode series is led by rising stars Bilal Hasna, who plays Elliot, and Vivian Oparah, who plays Jess BUT we particularly love is the interfering grandmother is played by (Dame) Penelope Wilton who previously thrilled us playing the meddling Isobel Crawley in Downton Abbey.
All six episodes of Dead Hot will be available to watch from 1 March on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland. :
