End of Winter Blues – Allison Ananis with some music picks for Spring

E. Alvin takes on a nineties classic Europop anthem with his latest release, “Blue.” “I am guilty of my own pleasure, surrounded by the sadness and grief in a place where it’s hard to live. Blue is my window, my house, my feelings. Blue is a celebration. A place to be calm. A place to be safe. Blue is my people; people like you.” The emerging artist gives the Italian music group Eiffel 65 – in which the song originated – a run for their money. Take a listen!

Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single “Drivers License,” became a pop triumph overnight. Struggling to escape the past, she sings, “I just can’t imagine how you could be so okay now that I’m gone/ Cause you said forever now I drive alone past your street.”  Rodrigo turns the mundane act of driving into a heart-wrenching, metaphorical drive through now bittersweet memories – the perfect song for every breakup playlist.

British singer-songwriter RAYE unveils the music video for her track “Regardless” featuring British bass and drum band, Rudimental. The music video features RAYE trying to distract herself from going through the motions of a failed relationship by having a night out with friends. You may even recognize hints of a classic club hit from the early 2000s “Rapture” by iiO. Well played, RAYE!

Dua Lipa boasts her acting skills in the Titanic-themed music video for her latest single, “We’re Good.” In the first verse of the song, we come to know that Dua Lipa is not talking about an ex-boyfriend. They are still together – but could not be (emotionally) further apart. Dua Lipa realizes that there is nothing left to salvage in this relationship. “I think it’s pretty plain and simple, we gave it all we could. It’s time I wave goodbye from the window. Let’s end this like we should and say we’re good. We’re not meant to be – like sleeping and cocaine.” What a brilliantly accurate analogy LIPA!
