For its latest issue ELSKA the bi-monthly gay photography and culture publication finally went Down Under. Each edition of the magazine is devoted to the queer boys in one particular global city, and after three years in existence, Editor Liam Campbell felt it was time to see what LGBT culture is like in Australia.
When he sought out opinions as to which city he should feature, the unanimous reaction was ‘anywhere but Perth.’ So guess where he chose! It was, in fact, an inspired choice and showed us all up here in the Western Hemisphere that gay life just does start and end in the Sydney,
As is his established practice, Campbell chose a whole range of regular gay men of all ages, cultures and backgrounds, and photographed them in their natural habitat and in the street. Some chose to bare their bodies and their souls to in the stories that were printed to accompany all the images. They are frank and funny and all shared a joyous sense of life …… so much so that this is the very first issue of ELSKA that has a man actually smiling on the front cover.
