DYKE DRAG BRUNCH : By Dykes For Dykes. @ PTown Womens Week

Having spent the whole summer here in Provincetown the queer mecca at the tip of Cape Cod we know it’s almost impossible to walk down Commercial Street without being wooed into joining one of the very many Drag Brunches.  They are literally everywhere.  One of Queerguru’s favorites is run by the vivacious Anita Cocktail at the Post Office Cafe who manages two brunches a day ….. and which are always sold out.

However, as Fall starts to cover the town and the crowds of tourists start to disappear a brand new drag brunch is about to appear.  This is the Annual Women’s Week so it seems that this is a Dyke Drag Brunch by dykes and for dykes.  This was once an annual event at the end of the last century when it was a fundraiser for local non-profits like Helping Our Women (HOW) and what is now the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.

Denise Gaylord, the original organizer said  Dyke Drag Brunch was also a bit of guerrilla street theater, and that for years she had observed men dress in feminine drag and saw the fun that accompanied the free expression of camping up gender. Gaylord and friends thought that women should feel free to do the same, and what surprised her was how immediately Dyke Drag Brunch included not only drag kings but that many attendees wanted to explore feminine drag as their own personal gender expression.

For this year the event will be at The Crown and Anchor and organized by I’m Baby x Kaylita the force behind similar regular events at Ginger’s Bar the last remaining lesbian bar in Brooklyn.  Their cast will include @mxmelkiki @ettapuss.  @xaddyaddy  and @imbabynyc (and the return of DJ @kaylitamanjarrez),
