DRUNK MUSICALS where the sobriety of the actors is completely in the audience’s hands comes to Fire Island

Some 6 years ago NY performer Kaylee Macknight was working Monday night Open Mics at The West End Lounge and after some heavy drinking later that evening she had one of those lightbulb moments. Here she was doing two of her favorite activities i.e. singing and getting inebriated. why not combine the two? Better still get paid for both.

And this is how Drunk Musicals began.  It’s a very simple premise.  It’s like Cast Party Challenge where the performers sing musicals while the audience sends shots to challenge the actors. The cast parody a musical and gets drunk, but also tell the story of it so that people who haven’t seen the show would understand the concept and eventually want to go see the actual production.

It was an idea that musician Michael Ferrara jumped at and he came on board as the musical director and he puts together the music and handles all of the orchestrations. The first show was Thoroughly Modern Millie and it played to a sold-out house. Since that day, Drunk Musicals was born!

Their usual home is Haswell Green’s Cocktail Bar in Times Square NY, but this summer they are setting up shop for one night only at The Ice Palace,  Cherry Grove,  on Fire Island.  This 90 min show will feature parodies of Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Little Shop of Horrors, and many more. Half scripted, half improv, you will never see the same show twice. The best part (!) the sobriety of these actors is completely in the audience’s hands.
