We have just heard of the perfect excuse to jump in our car and drive to Atlanta Georgia this coming weekend. OUT ON FILM Atlanta’s queer Film Festival is taking over the Drive-In for a special screening of the 2008 Oscar-winning musical Dreamgirls. It’s the movie that introduced the extraordinary talented Jennifer Hudson to the world, and we cannot think of anything more fabulous than seeing her belt out ‘And I Am Telling You I’,m Not Going’ on the giant outdoor screen.
For this special one-off event which is a fundraiser for AID Atlanta, you are expected to make an effort and go in costume. There will be a prize but since when did our community ever need an excuse to dress up. Really!
Miss Hudson has sent her regrets as she is finishing up her next major movie RESPECT a biopic of Aretha Franklin which is being released in movie theaters this summer. The word of the street is she may collect her 2nd Oscar for her performance. But the Organisers have been very fortunate to have Sheryl Lee Ralph, who got a Tony Nomination for being one of the very original Dreamgirls on Broadway to make a virtual intro for the screening
Meanwhile Out Of Film executive director Jim Farmer talked to Oscar winner Bill Condon about directing Dreamgirls and much more. You can check that out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lge1bH8tVZk
So grab your friends and pack that car and head for The Springs of course clutching your ticket that you need to buy here
