There will be very few people in Miami out celebrating Presidents Day this weekend as the present incumbent has given the LGBTQ Community NOTHING to be thankful for. However despite this we will be out in full force in Calle Ocho in the Little Havana district having a rare old time at the 5th Annual GAY8 Street Festival. It is unquestionably one of the best parties of our year.
Originally created for the local hispanic/latin/latinx queer communities who are part of our wonderfully diverse city, it has now become a ‘must’ event for all of us of different hues, colors, genders and sexuality.
With the entire street closed off the free festival there will be live entertainment by Grammy and Emmy award-winning artist Albita, along with Lucy Grau, Pepper Mashay, Son Lokos Robbie Elias, and internationally acclaimed DJ Abel, of the Rosabel duo.
For all the crowds that descend on 8th Street the energy is turned up really (really) high. There is music galore , dancing in the street, art, tasty food vendors and more than enough street bars. You can catch a variety of fashion shows, drag performances and a Comparsa sponsored by CubaOcho to close out the night.
There’s a special Girls area too for them to party in a welcoming environment where they can dance, drink and mingle (!) until the wee hours.
If you wanna take a break and put your feet up, then the Tower Theater , an art deco movie theatre in the middle of the block, will be hosting FREE LGBTQ movies all afternoon. Click HERE for the schedule
This is not just the largest Hispanic/Latino/Latinx LGBTQ hosted festival in the nation, its probably the very best one too
