Christopher Sousa : New Queer Art

Pipes and Drums

In the 14 years since CHRISTOPHER SOUSA has lived in Provincetown which is both a gay resort and an artist colony, he has established a reputation as one of the most important queer artists in town.  Not for him the picturesque scenes of cute Cape Cottages bedecked with flowers and swathed in the wonderful light that are seemingly de-riguer fare here.  Sousa’s art is of highly stylized images of an fascinating coterie of handsome sinewy men that grace his canvasses, seemingly carelessly but often with seemingly piercing stares.

His intriguing pieces are usually snapped up quickly by his avid band of loyal fans and collectors, and nowadays most of his Shows sell-out on Opening Night.   Here is a selection of both old and new art, and one thing we know as P Town is literally cut from the outside world in this horrendous winter weather, Sousa will be obliviously tucked away in his cozy studio working on his latest painting for his next show when summer comes.
