Celebrity queer coupling and uncoupling that are making headlines

Gay men have been coupling and uncoupling for years but since the advent of gay marriage separations and divorce have become much more public.  And in the case of  ‘celebrity gays’  the news of their break-ups have become fodder for gossip columns.

They are trying to persuade us that in post-covid 2023 we are going to see more gay divorces than ever.  It seems like the personal restrictions of the pandemic was the last straw in many cases.   It seems that was a factor for Grammy Award winner Ricky Martin and his  (very handsome) husband Jwan Yosef, who wed in 2018, and announced in a joint Instagram post that they are ending their marriage after six years.   From all reports their separation is remarkably amibical.

Less interesting is the recent announcement that actor Billy Porter is divorcing his husband creative director Adam Smith after 5 years. Porter has never stopped stretching his limited talent and has now become better known for wearing outrageous gowns on red carpets.  That, and whining in gossip columns about how tough his life is.

However, the news that peaked Queerguru’s interest in this subject was the fact that 41-year-old Brit heartbreaker Russell Tovey’s on-off engagement to 39-year-old Steve Brockman a personal trainer, rugby player, and former adult content creator is off again.   Sharp-eyed observers spotted Tovey posting a photo of himself and his beloved dog looking out over a sunset. He added a cryptic message alongside the photo, saying, “’It’s just you and me kid.”

Tovey is best known for his roles in LookingQuantico, and the most recent season of American Horror Story. He is also passionate about art …… collecting it, and talking about it.  He co-hosts a popular Talk Art podcast, with gallerist and long-time friend Robert Diament, which is now in its 13th season.  Recent guests have included Tracy Emin, Sonia Boyce and Hew Locke.

Tovey has also curated an arts festival for the English seaside town of Margate, organized exhibitions with illustrious galleries (among them David Zwirner), put his personal art collection on view at London’s The Perimeter, and served on the judging panel of the 2021 Turner Prize. the most influential art critic of our time.

When you are that talented and so much more than just being ‘easy on the eye’ we’re guessing that he will be moving back to the ‘coupled’ set before very long.

That’s a pretty tough take on Billy Porter. I always enjoy him, although his bare bones live show at the Pantages left something to be desired.
