Author, Journalist and Activist Paul Burston talks about his memoir “WE CAN BE HEROES”

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , , , ,

When you read a resume like PAUL BURSTON‘s you feel (a) totally exhausted and (b) that you really should achieve more with your own life! He’s a journalist, author, activist, one-time editor, and founder and host of POLARI the LGBTQ+ literary salon. Before we started talking to him we knew a little about his life as he had been one of the participants of Alexis Gregory‘s stunning verbatim piece Riot Act. We are still a little unsure why we had not tied him down for an interview, particularly as he is very much a significant figure in the UK”s queer community …….. and in fact in 2016, he featured in the British Council’s Global List of ‘33 visionary people promoting freedom, equality and LGBT rights around the world.. So when his memoir We Can Be Heroes was recently published it seemed the perfect time to catch up with this fascinating charming man of letters

Randy Roberts is Back in London Aging Disgracefully

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

When you make Provincetown your summer home it’s impossible to miss Randy Roberts. Literally. Over 6ft tall dressed as Cher she comes careering down Commercial Street on her electric scooter at breakneck speed. She tends to get away with it as in this gay mecca on the tip of Cape Cod she is recognized as Drag Royalty. Hard to believe she has been a big star here for the past 25 years (especially as she is allegedly only 39 years old) and this year her one-woman show is called Randy Roberts Aging Disgracefully.

We caught up with Randy as she was wrapping up the summer season and about to fly to London to star at Crazy Coqs, London’s premiere Cabaret Club ….again…. as we Brits have also fallen for her charm too

Randy Roberts - Aging Disgracefully!
Crazy Coqs Cabaret >
Thursday, 14th September 2023 to Saturday, 16th September 2023.

Following his first highly successful documentary ‘How To Survive A Plague’ which deservedly won him an Oscar Nomination, filmmaker David France has now turned his attention to the mystery surrounding the death of legendary NY drag queen and activist Marsha P. Johnson for his sophomore movie.  With the help of Victoria Cruz who was about to retire from the NY Anti-Violence Project, they try to get to the truth of what really happened to this stalwart of the Gay Liberation movement who was a central figure in the Stonewall riots.

The interview for Queerguru on PTV’s Channel 99 as part of their coverage of #PIFF2017 was filmed at The Lands End Inn by Heather Reed and Hussein Wentz, and was edited by Roger Walker-Dack

Sexpert ZACHARY ZANE talks about his new book Boyslut: A Memoir and Manifesto

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

Zachary Zane is a charismatic queer man who is something of a sexpert. He writes several different magazine columns about it, or otherwise (in his own words) is having a lot of really great sex.

Zane has also just written a new book, Boyslut: A Memoir and Manifesto in which he articulates that, even today, we live in a world that shames people for the sex that they have and the sexualities that they inhabit. Through the lens of his bisexuality and self-described sluttiness, he breaks down exactly how this sexual shame negatively impacts the sex and relationships in our lives, and through his personal experience, he shares how we can unlearn the harmful, entrenched messages that society imparts to us.

Queerguru caught up with this ebullient and quick-witted man to talk about his funny and fascinating story who has insured that Boyslut is a book that you will not want to put down
