
We’re just getting through this years TV/Film Award Seasons when we have already come across a shoo-in for next years Best Actress Nominations from seeing a glimpse of her performance in this new trailer,
Two time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett is starring as anti-feminist and leading homophobe Phyllis Schlafly in MRS AMERICA, a miniseries about the fight over the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s
The series, to be shown on the Hulu, explores how the battle of those turbulent time over the still-unratified ERA which threatened to split the country into two. Despite the the violent opposition of people like Schlafly, it would would amend the constitution to ban sex discrimination, gave rise to the culture wars that continue in the U.S. regarding LGBTQ rights, abortion, and other issues.
Blanchett is joined by an all star cast playing other real-life figures such as Gloria Steinem (Rose Byrne), Shirley Chisholm (Uzo Aduba), Bella Abzug (Margo Martindale), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman), Jill Ruckelshaus (Elizabeth Banks), and Flo Kennedy (Niecy Nash). On the opposing side, out actress Sarah Paulson plays a fictional character named Alice, based on a friend of Schlafly’s. John Slattery portrays Schlafly’s husband, Fred, while James Marsden has the role of right-wing Congressman Phil Crane.P.S.
