Bright Light Bright Light and his new music that maybe kicking off a new era

The multi-talented Bright Light Bright Light  has released his very delightful new music video  ‘Sweet Release’ with the claim that it is kicking off a new era.  That greatly intrigues us here at Queerguru as he has always been one entertainer who loves to spread his talent over such a diverse range of projects, we never ever know will be next.

It all started in a small village in Wales, a country that boasts that the entire population has great singing voices (think Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Tom Jones, Sir Bryn Terfel, Duffy, Bonny Tyler etc etc) Then when he was still Rod Thomas he went from busking outside London Tube Stations to LA evolving into Bright Light Bright Light and releasing his first music single

His resume includes touring as the Opening Act for Ellie Goulding, Scissor Sisters, Erasure, Cher plus SIr Elton John with whom he recorded a song. Then alongside successfully making his own music, he runs  a daytime dance party in New York Brooklyn and at Club Cumming, (which transfers to London when he is touring) called Romy & Michele’s Saturday Afternoon Tea Dance, named after ‘that film’

He also collaborates with actor, director and writer Mark Gatiss, by acting in The League of Gentlemen, and also composing the theme tune for Mark’s BBC4 series Queers,

Fast Forward to 2020 when he released the album Fun City a tribute to queerness, queer spaces, and most of all, queer people everywhere. All but one of the tracks is a collaboration, and the roster reads as a who’s who of prominent (and should-be-prominent) LGBTQ artists, including, among others, Andy Bell of Erasure and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters.  It’s not only a thoroughly queer album, but it is also one that centers queer joy  As a tribute to — and celebration of — queer life, Fun City became one of our favorite albums that we are still playing today.

With a whole catalog of music behind him with such a brilliant resume what can be next for this queer renaissance man?  We cannot wait to see and hear.
