Finding a ‘virgin’ (especially an artistic one) in Ptown these days is quite a rarity, but Studio Lacombe has found one and invited him to have his ‘debut’ this coming weekend.
Originally from NY originally Benji Weinryb Grohsga moved to Provincetown a little over 2 years ago on a whim. After studying to be an architect, and then specializing in urban policy. Benji became a software engineer. However, he had always harbored a desire to create art and there is no better place than to do this here in PTown. Like Gaston Lacombe, he loves working in mixed media, and you may have seen him around town going through the trash that may end up in his finished pieces.
Expect to see evidence of that in his very first Show called LANDSCAPES in which he plays with both space and abstraction Masses are arranged quietly, constructed, and bound together by memory: clouds, bits of ribbon, a tenuous hold. There’s a little sadness, a little stillness in each one – meant to evoke the kind of lonely but bittersweet grey noise that rings in the ears when one gets home from a great night out. Through this work Benji is trying to preserve his own moments of joy in the face of entropy: in his mind, these are the last clumps of matter and memory as we approach the heat death of the universe.
