The LGBTQ+ community has every reason to be skeptical when big business rushes to embrace us. History has taught us that too often that their focus is purely on getting their hands on the pink dollar which the media has led them to believe is a potential pot of gold. It’s therefore a joy whenever you discover a corporate sponsorship that really sets out to make a major contribution to the health and growth of our community.
Chevrolet is one such case, and they actually been in our corner for some years now. Back in 2014, they ran a series of adverts that featured gay families and endorsed same-sex marriage. Chevrolet’s support is very significant indeed. It’s one thing for a fashionable and trendy West Coast tech operation like Microsoft to support gay marriage, and another thing entirely for Chevrolet, a paragon of American tradition located smack dab in the middle of the country.
Then last year Chevrolet entered a partnership with a pro-LGBTQ media company called Q.Digital to create a new “series of documentaries and in-depth articles around leading LGBTQ issues,” as part of a content series called “Authentic Voices of Pride.” The series tackles some of the community’s most important issues, bringing context and information to LGBTQ people and their allies on these topics, while driving a conversation and contribution to create lasting change.
The videos they made consist of both “deeply researched editorial pieces,” as well as “documentary-style interviews with celebrities, influencers, and everyday people from within the LGBTQ community,” Here then are just a few of our favorites: ‘
