Alexander McQueen’s Foundation goes online with a series of Talks & Interviews

The Sarabande Foundation is the legacy of the late creative genius ALEXANDER McQUEEN.   He started it in 2007 and it  is named after his Spring Collection of that year.

Sarabande  was established because  McQueen passionately believed that creative minds with the potential to push boundaries should be given the same opportunities he’d enjoyed.  The genesis of all McQueen;s achievements was his open-minded approach to absorbing diverse creative influences and applying them in new and exciting ways. It is that openness and bravery that Sarabande seeks to inspire in future generations of creatives.

The Trust  became the major beneficiary of his estate after his death in 2010 and, by the end of 2016, had received 10.6 million pounds ($15 million). The money funds graduate and postgraduate scholarships and subsidizes the studio space in East London, for which scholarship recipients can become priority candidates to use for free for a year and then for a further year to rent at a low rate of about £1 per square foot. Other studio occupants pay the same rate throughout their tenancy.

Now Sarabande, in an effort to bolster creativity and support visionary talent for when everything returns to relative normality, are bringing their renowned Sarabande Series  of lectures on the arts,  online and FREE of charge. They will include the mindsets of some of the fashion and art world’s most esteemed figures.

There is a new talk everyday,  and here is the schedule, including the ones already held  and hopefully (!) they will eventually publish them  all on their own YouTube Channel

The fascinating discussion touched on Colleen’s beginnings in the industry and her early aspirations as a painter. She also talked through her design process, her relationship with directors such as Tim Burton and Rob Marshall, and dissected the intricacies of creating clothing for a character for film. Colleen explained “it’s not about 50 costume changes…It’s about creating an iconic image for a character”.
